Stay/Song Lyric Sunday

Today’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt is above from Mr. Jim and I had no trouble finding a song to fit the prompt.  My Song this Sunday comes from Jackson Browne…The Load Out and Stay.

This is definitely one of our favs !!!!  I could listen to it over and over again.  It reminds me of two of my favorite people in the world.  The  first would be my #4 Son, Mattew,

Matthew/Richmond Ballet
Ugly Step Sister/Richmond Ballet

  • My next fav would have to be Mr. DRandall Blythe, Lead Singer for Lamb of God.  I remember meeting him in the city when he was on tour in Chicago.  It was the afternoon and he was late.  After apologizing for 30 minutes for being late, I told him I get it.  You just got up even though it was 1:30 pm.

They are both entertainers and go on the road…I get how they feel from that song.  Once I was talking to my son, Matthew when he was on the road and he didn’t even know where he was.  I had to remind him 😉  It’s a hard and lonely life being an entertainer ❤ …They both have traveled internationally, Europe, China…

The Load Out / Stay
Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They’re the first to come and the last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They’ll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
And that was sweet –
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
And that’s a sound they’ll never know
Now roll them cases out and lift them amps
Haul them trusses down and get ’em up them ramps
‘Cause when it comes to moving me
You know guys are the champs
But when that last guitar’s been packed away
You know that I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for my piano
But the band’s on the bus
And they’re ready to go
We’ve got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago
Or Detroit, I don’t know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in the hotel rooms
And wander ’round backstage
Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came
Now we got country and western on the bus
R ‘n’ B, we got disco and eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We got rural scenes and magazines
We got truckers on C.B.
And we got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
As the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play
People you got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
Come along, sing this song
You know you that can’t go wrong
‘Cause when that morning sun comes beating down
You’re going to wake up in your town
But we’ll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here

  1. Your son Mathew seems very flexible. I love this song, thanks for sharing it Scarlet. I love the pedal steel or slide guitar that is used in this classic song,

    • He’s got a lot of our fav’s…. Running on Empty. Brown Eyed Girl … It’s a blast from our past… Thanks for stopping by Mz. Janet 🌹. Happy Week. Go Hawks 🏒🏒

  2. Both of these songs were singles with “Stay” on the A side and The Load Out on the B side. They both charted as singles and radio stations began playing them together as a medley. “Stay” remained on the Hot 100 chart for 15 weeks. I was in 8th grade when this song was popular and was one of my favorites during those crucial puberty years. Thanks for choosing this song! It’s been eons since I’ve heard “Stay” as a single. I always here it as the medley when it is on SiriusXM.
