Song Lyric Sunday

Good Sunday Morning to all of the Lyric Sunday crowd…Today’s prompt is Cards/Dice/Gamble/Lose/Win, one of my favorite things to do although I don’t do it much anymore.  Never liked the losing end of it and let’s face it the House always wins 😦  I’m going to use the song made famous by Kenny Roger’s, “The Gambler.”

The Gambler
On a warm summer’s eve
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a-starin’
Out the window at the darkness
The boredom overtook us,
And he began to speak
He said, “Son, I’ve made a life
Out of readin’ people’s faces
Knowin’ what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don’t mind me sayin’
I can see you’re out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I’ll give you some advice”
So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his faced lost all expression
He said, “If you’re gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right
You’ve got to know when to hold ’em
Know when to fold ’em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you’re sittin’ at the table
There’ll be time enough for countin’
When the dealin’s done
I wouldn’t mind another trip out to Vegas.  The shows are amazing, love standing in the pool playing black jack and love, love, love to spa at the Canyon Ranch at the Venetian and let’s not forget about Tiffany’s down at the Bellagio…Haven’t been there in a few years and would love to go, but there are other places I need to be and have so much to do this year that it’s probably going to have to wait til maybe next year.  I did have a chance to go but it was right after all of the carnage with the mass shooting and I just didn’t want to go there then.  Way to much bad mojo…
On with my Sunday Morning, and getting a new week started.  It’s finally warming up and I getting by in the groove from vaca.  Happy Sunday, Blogger’s ❤ .
I’ll give you a sneak peek at the painter’s new project, Monday’s Masterpiece and I’m working on my summer of fun travelor’s notebook that I’ll be sharing with you.  Busy week ahead, still in my decorating mode.  Blessings on your day ❤ .

  1. This is probably the epic gambling song. I love all the metaphors to life that he was able to pack into one song. Thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks for stopping by Mz. Lydia…When I look at the prompt for Song Lyric Sunday, I always go with the first song that comes to mind and this was the song for today. Happy Sunday ❤

    • Thanks Mr. Jim…I’m still having trouble with the ping backs. Maybe you could give me some advice on how to do them, Ahhhh !!!! So frustrating but I’m glad you liked the song anyways. Happy Sunday, great prompt for today ❤

  2. I’m surprised more people didn’t think of this. Either that, or they thought of it and said “nah, someone else is going to use that one.” I’ve been through most of the posts, and yours is the first one…

    • Thanks for stopping by Mr John. That was the first song I thought of when I heard the prompt. Johnny Cash sang a similar song but Kenny Rogers was better ;). Happy Monday let’s have a great week.

  3. Perfect choice for the prompt. The Gambler sure has timeless wisdom in this song. I remember the first time I heard this, I was blown away by the ending, “The gambler, he broke even…”
