AtoZChallenge…”Y”is for Yankee Doodle Dandy

Y A Y  for musical theatre !!!  Was over searching videos on youtube for, “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”  OMG what an amazing piece of theater and James Cagney, amazing dancer.  Anyone who reads this blog knows that my kids are in, “The Business.”  I have two who are professional ballet dancers…First let’s do the movie before I start blah, blah, blahhing all over the place about the son’s and how freaking talented they are 😉

Just your everyday Irish song and dance man…I don’t think so.  He was uber talented, so talented well there will never be another one like him.  They just don’t make them like this anymore.  I hope you have time for this little 4 minute video that shows it all…

Okay let’s go look for some of the quotes from this piece of theatre/movie…So I found another video that seems to be one of the more famous quotes from this movie.

Ah, musical theatre…What a gift.  I know this is the movie, but there really is nothing like going to a show on Broadway or your local high school’s musical theatre show.  My kids got interested in the theater after we took them on a vaca to the “Big Apple,” and saw a musical.  “Fosse” was the name of the musical, it was about Bob Fosse’s music and my kids just fell in love with theatre.  They were young, it was 2001…I know, it was August of that year.  Who knew.

The Son & Phillip Glass

After that it just took on a life of it’s own. Our lives were lived in the theatre.  We were either going to a Musical, auditioning for a musical, practicing for the show, performing in the musical.  Now they are all grown up and it’s just a memory, but a really great memory and we still get to go to the theater and watch them perform.   I’m going to put up a picture of one of the son’s when he worked with the one and only Phillip Glass.  He was using his music for a ballet he was choreographing.  Amazing

Really nice picture of our son and yes that is Phillip Glass.  Like he said, “Mind, Blown. I met the one and only and used his music for my ballet !!!”  Who knew that a family trip to New York and a broadway show would take on a life of it’s own !!!!

Okay so one more day, and this Challenge will be in the books.  It’s been so much fun.  I have to catch up in the reader.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
