AtoZChallenge…”P” is for Psycho

P S Y C H O is a 1960 American psychological horror film directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, and written by Joseph Stefano, starring Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, John Gavin, Vera Miles and Martin Balsam, and was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The film centers on the encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Leigh), who ends up at a secluded motel after stealing money from her employer, and the motel’s disturbed owner-manager, Norman Bates (Perkins), and its aftermath.[4]

Psycho was seen as a departure from Hitchcock’s previous film North by Northwest, having been filmed on a low budget, with a television crew and in black and white. The film initially received mixed reviews, but outstanding box office returns prompted reconsideration which led to overwhelming critical acclaim and four Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Leigh and Best Director for Hitchcock.

Psycho is now considered one of Hitchcock’s best films[5] and praised as a major work of cinematic art by international film critics and scholars. Often ranked among the greatest films of all time, it set a new level of acceptability for violence, deviant behavior and sexuality in American films,[6] and is widely considered to be the earliest example of the slasher film genre.

After Hitchcock’s death in 1980, Universal Studios began producing follow-ups: three sequels, a remake, a television film spin-off, and a contemporary prequel TV series. In 1992, the US Library of Congress deemed the film “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.

I remember this movie, OMG I will never watch this movie again.   I’m not a fan of scary movies, especially movies that could happen.  The first time I saw it on the TV, I was really young.  I remember my parent’s shooing me out of the room so I wouldn’t see it. Of course being a kid I thought, “Now I really want to see what all the fuss was about.”  Fast forward to me being a young woman, new bride actually, home alone.  I don’t even think there was cable yet.  The movie was on and that was the only thing to watch so yeah, I watched it.  I remembered the time I was little and the parent’s didn’t want me to see and I thought, “Okay I’m all grown up now…How scary can it be, it’s in black & white.”  OMG !!!! It scared me out of my mind.  I really think that’s why I can’t watch scary movies.  It is definitely a masterpiece of cinema.  No tricks, just pure horror.  Shower scene, well I can’t even think about it ever…I’m even getting kind of creeped out thinking about it.  Let’s just get to the quotes….I should’ve done, “Poltergeist.”  Now there’s a scary movie but really, “I ain’t fraid of no Ghosts.” (Ghostbuster’s)

Norman Bates: We all go a little mad sometimes.

Norman Bates: I think I must have one of those faces you can’t help believing

Norman Bates: People always mean well. They cluck their thick tongues, and shake their heads and suggest, oh, so very delicately!

Milton Arbogast detective: We’re always quickest to doubt people who have a reputation for being honest.
That’s all for today..I think I’ll skip the shower today :0
Y A Y it’s Wednesday, Hump Day…Almost Friday 🙂

  1. I loved this movie but it scared me too! We saw the “house” on a trip to Universal Studios when I was on a trip with my girlfriend. It was pretty cool. You can just tell there’s something going on by looking in Anthony Perkins’ eyes!

  2. I can’t even watch another movie that he’s in…He’s so creepy but what a great actor !!! Thanks for stopping by Mz. Janet ❤

    • Then never watch this one. I made that mistake when I was just married and I think I was forever scarred by it…

      • I was surprised at all the scary movies 🎥 that start with “p”… Poltergeist was scary but to unreal to really scare me. Tricks to scare you. Hitchcock was a genius. His movie 🍿 was so scary…

  3. Great suspense, horror film with a great but sad villain. There are some great scenes but a quick moment is the ending when they begin to fade out from Bate’s face. When it begins to fade, you see his mom’s corpse over his face and the chain pulling the car out coming from his heart…very chilling

    • Thanks for leaving me with that creepy picture in my mind right before bed… 😴😧😴😮😴no really thanks for stopping by. Have a great week..
