2018 AtoZChallenge: F…Funny Girl movie quotes

I started the AtoZChallenge in 2016 with a generic plan of AtoZ, as I was new to the blogosphere and had so much to learn.  It was so much fun. I met many knew friends and learned so much about blogging.  Very great experience.  For the  2017 AtoZChallenge I thought I would step out of the box and do the challenge with a theme. I have a love of Hockey and our Chicago Blackhawks were headed for the playoffs again so the timing of that theme would be spot on.   I grew my blog and learned a lot about blogging and Hockey.  So begins the 2018 AtoZChallenge and my theme this year is Quotes made famous by the movies.  I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am enjoying writing and researching it.  I have also came across this thing, “Blog Hop.”   I’m going to have to learn more about this.  Looks like fun and feel free anyone to explain it to me.  That’s one thing that I love about blogging, always something knew to learn about.

Funny Girl is an old-time classic movie.F Think a, “Star is Born,” only funnier.

I really just need to put this youtube video up because I love, love, love the song and it drives my husband crazy when I sing this song to him.  Sadie, Sadie married lady ❤

Here are a few of my (along with a song) favorite movie quotes from Funny Girl.

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“Hello, gorgeous.”

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“You think beautiful girls are going to stay in style forever? I should say not! Any minute now they’re going to be out! Finished! Then it’ll be my turn!

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“He’s a gentleman. A gentleman fits in anyplace.”

Rose Brice ( Kay Medford ):
“Fanny. Love him a little less. Help him a little more. “

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“I’m a bagel on a plate full of onion rolls! “

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“If I can’t tell when you’re ordering roast beef and potatoes, how will I know when you’re making advances? “

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“People. People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.”

Nick Arnstein ( Omar Sharif ):
“You are woman, I am man.”

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“Don’t tell me not to live just sit and putter. Life’s candy and the sun’s a ball of butter.”

This is probably, in my humble opinion one of the best scenes in the whole movie.  This probably won her the academy award…

Fanny Brice ( Barbra Streisand ):
“More than you know. Man of my heart. I love you so.”

And this is the movie that began my love affair with Barbara Streisand and the theater.  It’s a classic, they don’t make them like this anymore…

Funny Girl is a 1968 American biographical romantic musical comedy-drama film directed by William Wyler. The screenplay by Isobel Lennart was adapted from her book for the stage musical of the same title. It is loosely based on the life and career of Broadway and film star and comedian Fanny Brice and her stormy relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nicky Arnstein.

Produced by Brice’s son-in-law, Ray Stark, with music and lyrics by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, the film stars Barbra Streisand (reprising her Broadway role) as Brice and Omar Sharif as Arnstein, with a supporting cast featuring Kay Medford, Anne Francis, Walter Pidgeon, Lee Allen, and Mae Questel.

Streisand won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance, tying with Katharine Hepburn (The Lion in Winter). In 2006, the American Film Institute ranked the film #16 on its list commemorating AFI’s Greatest Movie Musicals. Previously it had ranked the film #41 in its 2002 list of 100 Years … 100 Passions, the songs “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade” at #13 and #46, respectively, in its 2004 list of 100 Years … 100 Songs, and the line “Hello, gorgeous” at #81 in its 2005 list of 100 Years … 100 Movie Quotes. Funny Girl is considered one of the greatest musical films ever.[4][5][6]

In 2016, Funny Girl was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress, and selected for preservation in its National Film Registry

  1. These are really great quotes! I used Funny Girl in an online course that I wrote for adults with Down syndrome. The course is called “For The Love of Musicals.” (Our A to Z theme is about our courses.) Musicals are very important in our community.

    I enjoyed your post!
