#atozchallenge/A is for Assists

Hi  Let me first introduce myself.  I am Scarlett in this blogging world and I am also a rabid hockey fan. We are going to learn a lot together with this blogging challenge.  I have only been watching Hockey for about 7 years.  Now that may sound like a long time but I just watch the game and know a little bit about it.  My watching partner is my youngest son, Connor aka Connie and if I have a question during the game he answers for me.  When he lived at home it was easy to watch the games with him but now he lives cross country.  Thanks to the miracle of technology we FaceTime the games together.  It’s part of our Hockey Mojo, but I’ll save that for a future post.

So I’m going to do my research to make sure it’s accurate and consult with my Hockey Pro Connie, who was also a professional Ballet dancer.  He’s been watching the game his whole life, literally.  I am the mom to 4 boys and he was the first one to take to Hockey and he got me really into it because I didn’t ever really like it.  Now Hockey season is pretty much my life.  When the season ends all I think about is when it starts up again, what are they doing in the off season.  Who got traded, who got picked up.  Their draft choices…You get the idea.  It’s all about hockey.

When the Blackhawks were in the playoffs one year, this was before I was a hockey nut, I said to Connor “Someone’s got to win and someone got to lose.  That’s  just how it works.  Just enjoy the game.”   He told me, “No mom that’s not how it works. The Blackhawks winning is everything, they can’t lose.”  So I become a fan and playoff season begins and now I’m losing it unless they have a 2/3 goal lead every game.  I totally get it now…THEY HAVE TO WIN THE STANLEY CUP, PERIOD !!!  I need medication to make it through the playoffs, seriously…

In ice hockey, an assist is attributed to up to two players of the scoring team who shot, passed or deflected the puck towards the scoring teammate, or touched it in any other way which enabled the goal, meaning that they were “assisting” in the goal. There can be a maximum of two assists per goal.
Assist (ice hockey) – Wikipedia

It’s easier to understand the assist with a visual and this was just such a pretty assist from Seabrook who passed it to the Captain (Toews) who got it to Hayden. When Toews passed him the puck, he shoots right handed so to make the shot he kicked it to the stick, S C O R E!!!  This was only his 2nd NHL game and he got his first NHL goal.   It was a great game and they won it 5/2. These are the kind of games that make hockey so much fun to watch.

My theme is ‘Hockey’…

  1. I admit, I’m not a hockey fan. Sorry! BUT I did go to a Rangers game many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Sports are so much more exciting in person! I loved hearing of this special connection you have with your son 🙂 Currently, my son is a grumpy 13 year old who won’t even look at me in public LOL I’m waiting him out…I figure my boy will come back to me a some point, after the grumpy teens pass!

    • I raised 4 of them, 3 boys and it was either join the club or be eaten !!!! We FaceTime together all the Hockey games. It has been one of the most rewarding things with my boys. I have more really cool stories about our hockey adventures, so keep following. Blessings ❤

  2. I know nothing about hockey. I feel this way about baseball. I’ll follow you to learn more about this sport. Your link did work by the way as I came here from the A to Z Challenge main facebook page. Good luck on the A to Z!

    • Oh I’m so happy the link worked there. Hockey has really saved my life, yes I know that sounds dramatic but it was a fun distraction from this thing called life and I got to share it with my guys!! So we will learn together, as I’m still learning ❤

  3. I love hockey and the Hawks are my team too. Right now I am hoping that they can tie up the President’s trophy. Looking forward to your next post.

    • Well that’s just fantabulous 🏒🏒 It’s going to be a blast for the playoff’s .. Thanks 🙏🏻 for visiting

      • My pleasure. This is my first year doing the AtoZ Challenge so I have been thrilled to find others like you who have similar interests.

  4. Quite an unexpected topic from someone of your vintage. Good for you. Sports obsession is great fun. Cheering for your team, riding the highs and lows, the agony and the ecstasy…it’s a great escape from the real world.
Ice Hockey is not big in Australia for obvious reasons. Even field hockey does not enjoy a very high profile, but I have a casual interest in both, so I am looking forward to learning more about the game from you.

    • Very cool 😎Australia well I hope I don’t disappoint,. I’m going to be coming at it through a very personal angle … Blessing 💝 hope you enjoy my stories ..

    • I saw from your blog that you have a metal band. Was just curious are you familiar with Lamb of God/D.Randall Blythe, stateside ??? He’s friends with my son’s. I refer to him as their brother from another mother. Just wondering…

    • Glad to see you come aboard. It will be fun because besides just the game I will add a personal edge to it and share our family stories. Much fun. Blessings to you ❤ and thanks for visiting ❤

  5. I don’t know much about hockey and never watch it, but for what it’s worth I’m in Mighty Ducks country and I guess we also have the Kings? To my knowledge, your series will be our first A to Z of hockey.

  6. Well then this must be coming from the great state of California !!! I was talking with someone from California about our Blackhawks and she said she didn’t think they had hockey in California. I smiled and said I think you have a couple of teams…lol It looks like you’ll have 2 teams in the playoff’s. So you should pick it up in the playoffs because it’s like a whole different game. Go Hawks and thanks for visiting ❤
